Piantedosi Baking Company, Inc. was proud to donate all the bread products for St. Anthony Shrine's Vigil Masses held June 12th through the 14th.
St. Anthony of Padua was renown for his compassion for the poor of this world. People devoted to St. Anthony care for the poor by providing them with "bread" so that they may survive. The devotion to "St. Anthony's Bread" means that when a person prays for a special intention to St. Anthony, he or she will promise to give a "gift" (bread) to the poor or to some charitable cause.
In order to commemorate this devotion and honor St. Anthony, the friars gave bread to all who came to the Shrine for the Vigil Masses, as a reminder of their common obligation to care for the poor.
